π History Made! Indiana's Fernando Mendoza Secures 2025 Heisman Trophy
Indiana University officially has a new legend. Quarterback Fernando Mendoza has been crowned the recipient of the 2025 Heisman Trophy, college football’s most prestigious award.
Mendoza secured the top spot convincingly, claiming 2,362 first-place votes, beating out Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia (1,435 votes) and Notre Dame running back Jeremiah Love (719 votes).
The victory marks a historical moment for Mendoza, a first-year transfer quarterback for the Hoosiers. He has been the primary catalyst behind Indiana’s resurgence, leading the team to an undefeated record and the No. 1 ranking—making them the top seed in the College Football Playoff (CFP) bracket, thanks to his impressive passing yards and points scored.
Following the Big Ten championship and the Heisman award, Mendoza and the Hoosiers are now preparing for the CFP quarterfinal game in the Rose Bowl on January 1.
The Miami native Mendoza is only the second Heisman finalist in school history—following running back Anthony Thompson in 1989—but he is the first to ever win the trophy for Bloomington.
The story of the transfer quarterback who instantly led his team to an undefeated season, a conference title, and college football’s highest individual honor is easily one of the most compelling narratives of the season!
